Sqlyog License: What You Need to Know About the GNU GPL v2.0 and Copyleft Requirements

There was a slight hiccup upgrading from Professional to Ultimate though. After purchasing the upgrade, I was mistakenly given a license for SQLyog Enterprise - Single User with Premium Support instead of the Ultimate version. To Webyog's credit, the mistake was handled quickly, but the experience illustrates that the upgrade process needs a little tweaking.

Pricing: TablePlus has a free version with full set of features which you can download and use forever, but there are some usage limitations. If you use it heavily, the license costs $59 to remove all those limitations.

SQLyog is available via trial download. The most recent release (SQLyog 3.62) is completely MySQL 4.1 compatible as well as backward compatible. The trial version is good for 30 days, after which you can purchase it starting at $49 per license. A registration code unlocks the trial version for continued use. As an indication of my feelings about the product, I purchased it before the trial period was up.

Forking Sometimes, a developer ends up forking Open Dental, creating a version that cannot be upgraded through the ordinary upgrade process. We strongly discourage forking, since the users will miss out on all future enhancements. There are many good alternatives to forking.
